Difference between coyotes and house dogs????
I know the subject sounds odd, but have to ask. Is there a difference between coyotes and house dogs in regards to using calls? I've been practicing with my calls and my dog is barking at me and now has since started howling with me (last nite first time) when I do my howls. My dog is a pug and beagle mix. Is this an indication that Im calling correctly in terms of tones and length or is this just hurting my dogs ears and pissing her off???

Might be right, might be wrong.I guess what I'm saying is IMO its not definitive. My Springer will 'howl'if I just humm loudly,my lab will 'howl' if I 'bark' and humm and both howl if I do a piss poor voice howl.Like coyotes, they both howl at sirens as well.

Outdoorsman pretty soon the coyotes should be getting really vocal!! I would go out in the beginning of february and try to locate some coyotes by howling. Make sure there are coyotes in the area and try the same sounds that the dogs are going off on.

Before you go out howling, make sure you know what your doing, just grabbing a howler and howl something out, will hurt you way more than help you

Well like LeviM mentioned, make sure you know what you are doing before going out to do that. So since Im new to the sport i will ask, should I just howl and no barks? I would think a howl or two would be enough to possibly get a response. I feel alot more confident with my new Song Dog call when doing howls than I did with the Hot Dog.

For locating just keep to a long drawn out howl with little to no aggression
