Tough to give an exact date, may be an "aftermarket" style stock.

Try this.

Can you work the bolt with the safety on? If so, it was made after '85 or so. Prior to 85-86 the Rem 700's needed to be on "fire" to open the bolt.

Also, Remington (in their infinite wisdom  ) no longer chambers the .22-250 in a sporter barrel. Can only get them in a heavy barrel now. Stupid.

thanx barebackjack---it must be on fire to open the safety--must be prior to 85 or 86--I could tell it was older because the wood has that "aged" look----who ever had this gun took very good care of it--it is in about 90% condition

I wish I had a dozen of the "old" 250's in the closet.

I wish theyd bring back the polished "jeweled" bolt. I dont like the matte bead blasted bolts. Picks up alot of brass off the top round in the mag.

Good luck with it. I hope its had few rounds through it and has a fresh barrel.

I thought I could help you out, but the rem that I got from my grandfather is a mod 788 (22-250). Great shooting rifle with two minor flaws weighs a ton with no sling, and the clip only holds three rounds.
